Meet Cameron Brewer
At the age of 18 I was diagnosed with Mycobacteroides abscessus (formerly Mycobacterium abscessus.) This is a species of rapidly growing, multidrug-resistant, nontuberculous mycobacteria that is a common soil and water contaminant. To treat such an infection, doctors treated me with IV antibiotics for roughly 3 months. This prolonged and aggressive exposure to the medication caused me to develop Sensorineural Hearing Loss. After a few years I was able to be fitted for hearing aids myself. I’ve had hearing aids for nearly a decade and have learned a great deal about these devices over years and consider myself very comfortable with them. I’m continuing this education and working towards board certification, in which I can share my knowledge and first-hand experience with others.
